Dogs experience the world through scent. That’s why every Bougie Poochie candle is developed with both sides of the home in mind: the person who loves fragrance and the dog resting beside them.

The Dog Standard is our formulation philosophy—a thoughtful set of ingredient restrictions, fragrance guidelines, and performance standards created specifically for shared spaces.

It is not a third-party certification or a claim that candles are risk-free for every animal. It is our commitment to ask more questions, make more considered choices, and formulate with greater restraint.

Every material considered through our Dog Standard.

Every Bougie Poochie fragrance is reviewed ingredient by ingredient. Our standards include:

  • No intentionally added phthalates

  • No ingredients classified as carcinogenic or mutagenic within our formulation requirements

  • Added restrictions on essential oils and aromatic materials commonly associated with pet sensitivities

  • Fragrance materials used within the applicable IFRA guidelines for candles

  • A soy-and-coconut wax blend selected for a clean, even burn

  • Balanced scent diffusion designed to create atmosphere without overwhelming the room

We work closely with experienced fragrance and manufacturing partners, pairing modern perfumery with an intentionally cautious approach to the materials we bring into dog-loving homes.

Why we don’t say “all-natural”

Natural does not automatically mean gentler—and synthetic does not automatically mean harmful.

Some essential oils and naturally derived materials can be irritating or inappropriate around animals, particularly when highly concentrated. Thoughtfully selected synthetic ingredients can provide greater consistency, stability, and precision.

Rather than rely on vague labels, we evaluate each material according to how it will be used, at what concentration, and how it contributes to the finished fragrance.

Made for a dog’s home—not for use on a dog.

Bougie Poochie candles are designed to fragrance shared living spaces. They should never be applied to your dog, placed within reach of pets, or used as a substitute for fresh air.

Every dog is different. Age, breed, respiratory health, and individual sensitivities can all affect how an animal responds to fragrance. Introduce any scented product gradually and pay attention to your dog’s behavior.

For the most comfortable burn:

  • Use your candle in a well-ventilated room

  • Keep it away from crates, beds, food, and water bowls

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended

  • Make sure your dog can leave the room freely

  • Discontinue use if your dog shows signs of discomfort

  • Ask your veterinarian before using fragranced products around pets with respiratory conditions or known sensitivities
